Sylvia Makes Her mark at Cape Town Fashion Week
The New Vision Online - 15th August, 2005

It was mostly a fashion buyer's kind of show, so the 2005 Nokia Cape Town fashion Week did not have many of the bold and outrageous outfits most of us are used to. Instead, there was subtlety, finesse, and clothes that were almost ready to wear. Designs by Uganda's Sylvia Owori fit in just fine. "In a way this was different from last year's Kenya fashion Week", Owori said after her showcase on Friday evening. "When you come to a show like this, you want to make an impact, you want people to start asking about your clothes, and to order for them. People come here from all over the world to look at designs, so one hopes to have made an impression."

The New Vision Online - 13th September, 2005

FOR the lucky finalists at the City Beat draw held at the Sylvia Owori label store at Garden City, it was a mixture of feelings. From a high mood of anticipation, through disbelief, sense of loss and finally happiness.

From the beginning, it was not The New Vision's marketing manager, Tony Glencross, who excited the audience' attention was on fashion editor, Keturah Kamugasa, whose tips were vital to all. Sylvia Owori, who seems less wordy in the presence of the press, had little to say about her success story.

African Woman
The New Vision Online - 14th November, 2005

PERHAPS we now have some answers as to why Sylvia Owori gave up running the Miss Uganda beauty pageant. Something else has been taking up her time. Last Thursday at Garden City, the designer launched her women's magazine, african woman.

And the magazine is nothing to be mocked. The layout and design are rich, paper quality excellent and the content appealing. Even better is the pricing, sh3,000, which is within reach of the average reader.
